Dr. Chris Lekich was born in Melbourne and raised in Queensland from five years of age. He completed his medical degree in 1991 from the University of Queensland and worked at Royal Brisbane Hospital as a resident for three years. As a senior medical officer he completed numerous country hospital rotations as a relieving Medical Superintendent. In 1995 Dr. Lekich moved to the Gold Coast where he took up a position at the John Flynn Hospital newly formed Accident and Emergency Department. He further worked at Allamanda and Pindara Private Accident and Emergency Departments. As well as working in accident and emergency, Dr. Lekich worked closely with a retinal surgeon both in clinic and assisting at the operating microscope during vitreoretinal surgery. A decade of work at the operating microscope led to Dr. Lekich's interest in microscopic vasectomy reversals. Dr. Lekich has trained with vasectomists in Australia and overseas and has adopted the "Open Ended" technique for vasectomy procedures, influenced by Professor Owen and other like minded surgeons. Operating in both Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Dr Lekich has helped raise community awareness of the vasectomy procedure through journal and newspaper articles as well as radio discussions. Dr Lekich’s interest in vasectomy reversals stems directly from his vast experience in microsurgery. His mentor, Professor Earl Owen (known as the father of microsurgery in Australia) has performed 5000 vasectomy reversals with an 85% success rate demonstrated by baby births. Currently the two surgeons work together performing vasectomy reversal procedures in our dedicated theatre located in the Brisbane rooms. For more information visit www.earlowen.com.au. Dr. Lekich has furthered his university education beyond medicine and completed a postgraduate law degree (Juris Doctor) from Bond University in 2004. He then completed the Bar Practice Course at the Queensland University of Technology in 2005 and was admitted as a Barrister in the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2005. He completed his Masters of Business Administration at Bond University in 2006 and is also an assistant professor at the Bond University Medical School. Dr. Lekich is a devoted husband and father of three young children, two girls and a boy and enjoys jogging while his children ride their bikes. He is a keen surfer, golfer, water and snow skier.
